Celebrity Portraiture Reinvented
Fourteen Actors Acting blew me away. Imagine storytelling in a minute or less that includes character and story. These silents are so compelling to watch, it’s even better than a story with a plot.
Warhol knew something then that artists today are applying now. Film was another way to make a portrait as seen in his screen tests of celebrities and his Warhol superstars. But where Andy failed, at least in telling a story, Solve Sundsbo succeeds. This is how portraits of actors are made — as they are — acting as soon as the camera starts rolling.
The clear standout performances include Vincent Cassel as he dances wonderfully, James Franco in a narcissistic turn, Natalie Portman revealing nothing as she undresses and Tilda Swinton crying, pleading, gasping.
Watch them all for 14 minutes of pure amazingness.
